On the Big Island, the funding will cover dredging at the Wailoa Small Boat Harbor ($1 million), fencing 24,000 acres in the Manuka Natural Area Reserve ($1.5 million), and improvements to the Honokohau and Kawaihae small boat harbors.
The state is providing $4 million for the work at the West Hawaii harbors and Port Allen Small Boat Harbor on Kauai.
That work will include expanded parking, additional boat wash facilities, water and drain improvements and replacement of concrete piers with aluminum floating docks.
Previously, DLNR said the Manuka fencing project would start this year and finish in 2016.
The project is intended to protect native plant species by removing hoofed animals.
Other projects being funded are: general park improvements ($7.5 million), building repair and improvements ($2.5 million), marine debris mitigation ($2 million), water projects plan update ($500,000), dam assessment and maintenance ($500,000), Lipoa Point land acquisition ($500,000) and parking study at Maunawili Trail on Oahu ($25,000).
